Eighteen men in one house, illegal immigrants, living in the dark, going to work in the dark, trying to save enough money from labouring in the local wool mills to buy a piece of land back home…

Then Hussein Shah (Om Puri), the leader of the house, brings home a stray white girl he has picked up in a local cafe. To begin with, Mary (Angeline Ball) brings warmth, fun and light… …but when she turns out to be pregnant, things spiral out of control…
